Compared to their predecessors, the new iMac models essentially have the same design. In terms of technology and speed, the devices feature advanced seventh-generation processors and Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports.

The back of the case is made of aluminum, thicker in the center and tapering to a minimal thickness of 5 mm at the edges.

Connectivity includes these two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, four USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 4.2.

Standard, the iMac models from Mid 2017 come with a compact aluminum Apple Magic keyboard and the Multi-Touch “Magic Mouse 2.”

The wireless keyboard now also has a numeric keypad. The keyboard and mouse can be charged using a charging cable. Batteries are a thing of the past.

You can also opt for the “Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad” instead of the standard keyboard and the “Magic Trackpad 2,” which offers Multi-Touch and “Force Touch” features instead of the Magic Mouse 2.

Of course, you can upgrade your new iMac directly with our fully compatible memory for the best performance and maximum speed in your new iMac.

Apple iMac Mid 2017 - Memory in Dual Channel Mode

Basically, the already factory-installed 2x4GB memory can also be operated with a single 16GB memory module.

In the iMac, the 4 memory slots are divided into two channels with two slots each. If a paired configuration with identical memory modules is performed, the dual channel mode for the entire memory area is automatically activated. All memory accesses will then be distributed to both memories in an optimized speed, thus accelerating memory access from the processor.

If the memory expansion consists of a single memory module, your Apple system’s processor is already smart enough to operate the shared memory address areas in dual channel mode. This means that if you mix, for example, the factory-installed 2x4GB with a single 16GB memory module, a memory area of 2x8GB will operate in dual channel mode, and only the remaining 8GB will operate in normal mode.

Although it is technically possible to use single memory modules, we recommend that for a memory upgrade, you use a memory kit consisting of 2 identical memory modules with 2x8GB or 2x16GB.

Topic: overRAMing

For the devices 21.5-inch “Core i5” 3.0GHz and 21.5-inch “Core i5” 3.4GHz, it is not only possible to have 16GB as described by Apple, but even 32GB through overRAMing.

If you are interested in the topic of overRAMing, you can feel free to read more about it in our blog post. Everything is explained in detail here.
