Since January 31, 2019, we have been successfully offering the 128GB memory upgrades in our online store phs-memory.com, consisting of a memory kit of four 32GB SO-DIMM DDR4 RAM modules for all 27-inch 5K iMac models from 2017. With the release of the new iMac generation in March 2019, we were able to offer a 100% compatible 128GB memory upgrade for Apple’s new devices on the very first day they shipped.
Our “overRAMing” tests showed that in the new iMac 2019 5K, contrary to Apple’s claims, not only 64GB (4x16GB) but 128GB (4x32GB) of RAM works perfectly. No issues were observed even under prolonged, high-memory stress tests.
Our claim that 128GB of RAM works in the iMac is also supported by the technical specifications of the Intel processors from the Coffee Lake series, which Apple used for the new 5K models. Intel also states that the CPU supports 128GB of RAM.
Upgrading the RAM is very easy for users with all iMacs from the 2017 and 2019 model years, and compared to Apple’s memory prices, it is very affordable to perform. With all orders, we automatically send a comprehensive and illustrated installation guide, making it easy for even beginners to expand their memory themselves.
The current prices and memory upgrades for the 2017 to 2019 iMac series can be found at the following links:
