Printer memory
Upgrading the printer's memory can solve many printing issues. A print job is prepared page by page and sent to the RAM printer memory. Especially with laser printers, it is important that the printer's memory is large enough to hold the fully prepared page in the printer's main memory. If the memory is insufficient, the printer will display an error message or cancel the print job.

What happens if my printer has too little memory?
The required size of the RAM (printer memory) in a printer depends on many factors. The performance of the printer is significantly influenced by the size of its memory. For large print jobs or high-quality documents with high resolution, a generous amount of printer memory is necessary. The printer generates a print file, representing the documents to be printed, which needs to be temporarily stored in the printer's memory. If the printer memory is too small, the device will display an error message such as "... Printer memory too low!" or the printout will be incomplete or faulty. This can be especially frustrating if a large number of copies were printed, but none of them were fully completed.
A larger printer memory also improves the performance of the printing device. During each print job, there are small pauses in the processing between the PC or print server and the printer. By expanding the printer's memory, these processes are optimized, and printing is accelerated.
Expanding the printer memory is very straightforward for most printers. For more information on this topic, check out: Not enough memory in your printer? in our blog article.
