RDIMM memory can only be used starting from motherboard revision C2 (Intel 5520 chipset).
Here's how to check if you have a motherboard with a C2 revision:
- Start the BIOS setup menu. In the System Information Menu the Boot Block Date is displayed
- If the Boot Block Date shows the date 01/07/10, it is a C2 revision
- If the Boot Block Date shows the date 01/30/09, it is a B3-based system
Alternatively, you can use the HP Performance Advisor software. Here you can find the information under System Configuration and Baseboard ID.
- All B3-based systems have the value: 0AE8h
- The system with the C2 revision has the value: 0B54h
RDIMM and ECC UDIMM must not be used together.
